Club Night Procedures
- Club Night is held on Friday nights at YMCA Mount Annan Leisure Centre as per the season’s program.
- On arrival at the YMCA Mount Annan Leisure centre, please follow the YMCA entry rules.
- Competition starts at 7:00pm.
- Swimming competitors should arrive between 6:30pm – 7:00pm.
- Late entries may not attract season points if the program is already completed. Points will not be added retrospectively.
- Swimming competitors should demonstrate appropriate behaviour to all club volunteers and organisers by being polite, courteous, and responsive to instructions.
- Swimming competitors should follow directions and promptly report to the marshalling area.
- Parents/Carers of swimming competitors under 15 years must be accompanied by an adult and supervise their child for the duration of Club Night as per YMCA’s Keep Watch Policy.
- Supervision of swimmers remains the responsibility of parents/Carers.
- Swimming competitors should be supportive and encouraging toward all swimmers.
- Swimming competitors should strive to give their personal best.
- Parents/ Carers of all swimmers are expected to help with Club Night duties, including timekeeping and assisting with setting up and packing up at the end of each event.
- The Club and Club Nights are run completely by volunteers.
Club Competition
During the swimming season, swimmers will be able to compete in a range of competitions within the Friday evening program of the club. Points are awarded based on personal achievements and improvements, as well as a Club Age Championship for all swimmers at the end of the season.
To be eligible for any awards within the various competitions, swimmers must complete:
- At least 50% of available Club Nights, at the time of becoming a first claim financial member.
- New members joining mid-way through the season must complete a minimum of 12 Club Nights.
- Swimmers can only compete in one of the 25m, 50m or 100m distances per stroke per Club Night.
Swimmers not meeting the above criteria may compete at the end of season Club Age Championship but will not be eligible for any awards including Club Champion or Age Champion.
Highest Attendance Award
Mount Annan Swimming Club places emphasis on commitment and dedication shown to supporting our club through attendance. This award will honour a swimmer who ranks highest attendance across the entire season. Only a stand out swimmer(s) will receive this award at committee discretion.
Weekly Non-Point Score Events – Juniors
For our Juniors, 7 years and under swimmers we hold 12m and 25m events for kick and freestyle. These events are non-competitive (no points will be calculated) and all swimmers who meet club eligibility will receive our ‘Junior Achiever’ trophy at the end of the swimming year. Junior swimmers when ready may also progress and participate in the point score program.
Note: Swimmers swimming in Junior events cannot swim longer events on the same Club Night.
Weekly Point Score Competition
The weekly point score competition allows all swimmers of various levels of experience and ability to compete on an equal playing field. Points are awarded for each swim according to the swimmer’s own ability, achieving points by consistent attendance and improvement. The swimmer’s points accumulate over the season, the highest point scorer in each classification will be awarded a trophy. Swimmers will be graded into three classifications for this competition according to age.
A swimmer’s age will be determined by their age as of 1st of October (the first day of the season).
- 7 years and under = Splashers
- 8 – 11 years = Juniors
- 12 years and over = Seniors
Points will be awarded for the weekly programmed pointscore events and the Championship swims on Club Nights.
Points will be awarded as follows:
- Attendance: Starting and completing any stroke or distance 5 points
- First swim attempt at a given distance for any stroke 1 point
- Swimming 0.51 –2.00 seconds outside of their best time for a stroke and distance 3 points
- Swimming within 0.50 seconds on either side of PB 6 points
- Swimming 0.51 –2.00 seconds inside their best time for a stroke and distance 9 points
- Swimming better than 2.01 seconds inside of best time 12 points
Boys and Girls will be awarded within the same classification.
1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be issued.
Distance Point Score
The distance point score is designed to encourage distance swimming over 400m Individual Medley and 400m freestyle. These events are swum on Club Nights as programmed and are open events. Points are awarded for each swim according to the swimmer’s placement and achieving points by consistent attendance. The swimmer’s points accumulate over the season with the highest point scorers winning the distance point score competition for the season.
Swimmers will be graded in the following classifications;
- Junior Boys 11 years and under
- Junior Girls 11 years and under
- Open Boys
- Open Girls
A swimmer’s age for the junior division will be determined by their age as of 1st of October (the first day of the season). Swimmers in the junior, 11 years and under division can still achieve points in the open division. Open swimmers, 12 years and over cannot achieve points in the junior division.
Points will be awarded as follows:
- Attendance: Starting and completing any stroke or distance 5 points
- 1st place (5 points)
- 2nd place (4 points)
- 3rd place (3 points)
- 4th place onwards (1 point)
1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies will be issued.
An 800m Freestyle event has been added to the distance program for the 2023- 2024 season.
This event is open to swimmers with a qualifying time less than 5:50.00 based upon the 400m freestyle held within club nights. Heats will be limited for this event and entry can be at coaches / committee discretion. This event will be a non-point score event as entry is limited. The 800m freestyle event is to encourage long-distance swimming within the club and to provide an opportunity to obtain times for external carnivals.
Overall ‘Club Champion’ Award
The Club Champion award is to determine the well-rounded swimmer across all strokes and distances.
This award is based on a swimmer’s ‘best’ time achieved over the entire season for all 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m strokes.
Club Champion is awarded across four divisions:
- Junior Boys 11 years and under
- Junior Girls 11 years and under
- Open Boys
- Open Girls
A swimmer’s age for the junior division will be determined by their age as of 1st of October (the first day of the season). Swimmers in the junior, 11 years and under division can still achieve points in the open division. Open swimmers, 12 years and over cannot achieve points in the junior division.
Points will be awarded to the fastest swimmers in each category. Swimmer’s best times will be ranked and points will be awarded as follows:
- 1st place (5 points)
- 2nd place (4 points)
- 3rd place (3 points)
- 4th place onwards (1 point)
1st place only will be issued in each classification.
